Don Buford, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who has spent two decades teaching orthobiologics to other physicians. He serves as Chairman of the Biologic Association for 2026–2027, and is a past president of the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation, where he served two terms and still sits on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. He is in his fourth year on the Board of Directors of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and is founding editor of the Biologic Orthopedics Journal.
Since 2008 he has directed the Las Vegas Regenerative Medicine and MSK Ultrasound Course, one of the longest-running courses in the field, where more than 2,500 clinicians have trained.

Does PRP actually work better than the gel shots I was offered?
In the largest comparison available, a meta-analysis of eighteen Level I randomized trials covering 1,608 patients by Belk and colleagues in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, WOMAC scores improved 44.7% with PRP against 12.6% with hyaluronic acid. That is one measure in one analysis, not a guarantee for your knee, and the right choice still depends on your stage of arthritis.
Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?
No referral is required to book. What helps most is a list of what you have already tried - injections, physical therapy, bracing, medication - together with any prior imaging, which our office can help you obtain if it is not easy to lay hands on. That history is what shortens the path to a decision. Most patients are seen within two weeks of calling.
