Serving Prosper from our Dallas office
Prosper patients often have more than one problem joint. Some come in for a knee and leave with a plan for a shoulder or hip too. Others have a rotator cuff tear and want to know if they can avoid surgery.
Texas Orthobiologics treats these problems with PRP and BMAC (stem cells), given by board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Don Buford. We have one office, in Dallas. From Prosper Town Hall it is about 37 miles, or roughly 40 minutes with light traffic.
These are the problems Prosper patients ask us about most. Each link goes to a page with more detail.
Both treatments use your own body's healing cells. Neither one uses donor tissue. Here is how they differ. Read more about PRP injections and BMAC (stem cells).
| PRP | BMAC (stem cells) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Platelets from your own blood, concentrated to a high dose | Cells from your own bone marrow, concentrated during the same visit |
| Where it comes from | A blood draw from your arm | A small draw from the back of your hip bone, with numbing medicine |
| Your investment | Starts at $1,500 | Starts at $5,000 |

Yes. Some patients have more than one joint treated with BMAC (stem cells) in the same visit. Your investment depends on how many areas we treat, and you will know it before you commit.
It depends on how much wear is in the joint, your age, your activity and your goals. Dr. Buford looks at your X-rays or MRI and examines the knee with ultrasound. Then he explains which option fits you, or whether neither one does.
For some partial rotator cuff tears and tendon problems, PRP or BMAC (stem cells) is an option. A large or full tear may need surgery. Dr. Buford is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who does both, so he can tell you which path fits your shoulder.
New patient visits often run past 45 minutes. We go over your imaging, examine the area with ultrasound and talk through your options in detail, so please don't rush it.
